Empowering Europe's vulnerable youth! - 90’ digital workshop - Tuesday 13 October, 9:30-11:00

Across Europe, vulnerable young people are often excluded from the labour market and benefit little from top-down support structures which fail to empower them. This session will demonstrate how this challenge is being tackled by two projects - EYES and IMAGINE both offering opportunities for Europe’s youth to co-produce social support schemes through transnational partnerships of regions, cities, as well as civil society. The floor will be open for debate on the resulting lessons for policy makers and practitioners.

Can e-waste go circular? - 30’ EURegions talk - Tuesday 13 October, 10:30-11:00

With Europe being an increasingly digitised society and now hosting 60 000 data centres - a number expected to grow by 300% by 2025 - e-waste has become a pressing challenge. How can the data centre industry (DCI) minimise its environmental impact? What strategies exist to extend product life and hardware equipment reuse? Deborah Andrews from London South Bank University will address those questions, relying on her experience in the CEDaCI project working towards a more sustainable DCI.

Closing the loop in the textile industry - 30’ EURegions talk - Tuesday 13 October, 11:30-12:00

Textile is the second most polluting industry in the world. Every year, 4.7 million tonnes of post-consumer textiles are thrown away across North-West Europe. What barriers to recycling do key stakeholders encounter and what opportunities exist to make the textile industry more circular? Hilde van Duijn from Circle Economy, Lead Partner in the Fibersort project which developed an automated textile sorting technology, will provide policy recommendations to help turn waste into new resources.

Partnerships for Renewable Energy Region - 90’ digital workshop - Thursday 15 October, 11:30-13:00

For a green(er) Europe, regions and cities need to increase the share of renewable energy (RE) in their production and consumption mix. This session will explore how regions and cities have been joining forces with rural communities to create RE partnerships. This way, cities meet their RE demand through reliable regional supplies while regional revenues strengthen the economic resilience of rural communities. Best practice from the RegEnergy project and Eastern Europe on how to overcome regulatory barriers among others will be showcased.

Boosting clean e-mobility in Europe - 90’ digital workshop - Wednesday 21 October, 9:30-11:00

There is a need to facilitate transport electrification - which has been taking off across Europe - with a sustainable and long-term vision. The success of the e-mobility depends on multiple factors, including the generation and provision of clean energy, wider user-acceptance and large-scale deployment of green transport. The session will put these factors into a broader urban and peri-urban perspective and present solutions developed through the EU-funded initiatives. Concrete examples of how to overcome challenges related to the electrification of urban transport through cooperation and networking of cities and regions will be showcased, including the testimony of the CleanMobilEnergy project.
