Press Release 3.07.2017: Bio Base NWE project selected as finalist for the RegioStars Award 2017

BioBase4SME is proud to announce that its forerunner, the Bio Base NWE project, has been selected as a finalist for the RegioStars Award 2017 in the category ‘Smart Specialisation for SME Innovation‘.

The RegioStars Awards Jury has announced the finalists for the 2017 edition of the RegioStars Awards, the yearly competition honouring Europe’s most inspiring and innovating regional projects supported by EU Cohesion Policy Funds.

An independent Jury, led by MEP Lambert Van Nistelrooij, selected 24 finalists from 103 entries on the basis of four key criteria: innovation, impact, sustainability and partnership.

The 24 selected finalists come from regions and cities in 20 Member States and one neighboring country: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

Many of the finalists are addressing common challenges through cooperation across borders.

The winners of the RegioStars Award will be announced during the RegioStars Award Ceremony, which will take place on 10th of October 2017 in Brussels – second evening of the European Week of Regions and Cities, a yearly event which attracts more than 6000 participants. The ceremony itself will take place in the Square, and will be attended by around 1700 participants.

The Bio Base NWE project (2013-2015) brought together bio-based economy experts from eight organisations in five different countries. They provided networking opportunities and technological solutions to more than 755 SMEs, identified hurdles SME encounter during their innovation track and translated these into policy recommendations.
