Report CHARM UK Inspiration Days

online event and meeting

24 September 2020

The CHARM UK Inspiration Days in September 2020 were perfectly organised and hosted by CHARM partner Accord Housing Association. During the week, several online sessions were organised, themed around the CHARM projects and in particular the virtually plastic-free houses of Accord. A one of a kind project on reducing plastics in construction.

We have seen around 35-40 people attending each online session. In total, we have had 173 session attendees (sum of all attendances) and 101 unique participants attended at least one session. All sessions are recorded and published on CHARM’s YouTube channel. Accord did a great job, including great communication from SHAP, Accord, EFL, and some other EU networks. We are also very positive about getting an audience that is interested in strategic, long-term issues; and having an academic debate. SHAP is looking to catch up on how tenant engagement can help to facilitate green recovery (and work with the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy in the UK).

On the 17th of September, the CHARM partners gathered in an online meeting to talk about the progress of the projects/demonstration exemplars, executed by the four social housing organisations Accord (UK), Paris Habitat (France), Woonbedrijf (the Netherlands) and Zonnige Kempen (Belgium).

Next event: last week of February 2021 in the Netherlands

We hope to see you again at our next event during the last week of February 2021. This event will be organised and hosted by social housing organisation Woonbedrijf, based in the Netherlands. Their CHARM project is about circular and modular new build houses with tenant involvement. Once again, we want to organise various inspirational events (presumably online) throughout a week. We’ll keep you updated!

CHARM: circular housing asset renovation & management

The four social housing organisations are contributing to an asset management approach that prevents downcycling of materials in renovation and construction of social rented dwellings by creating:

  • circular building strategies tested in demonstration exemplars
  • guidelines for a circular procurement strategy for social housing organisations
  • material exchange platforms to enable circular flows of materials and building components in the social rented sector

The lead partner of CHARM is TU Delft.
