2021 World EV Day

This September, the 2021 World EV Day took place with the intention of inspiring widespread engagement with e-mobility and to support sustainable transport solutions for all. Reaching over 1.9 billion last year, World EV ((Electric Vehicle) Day will continue to drive progress towards a zero-emissions mobility by promoting the transition to sustainable transport with attractive outcomes on the consumer, business and policy level. World EV Day supports partners in their development of creative digital/social media campaigns to inspire the significant uptake in EVs: partners are inspired to share stories from EV drivers about their switch to EVs and are provided with the tools and channels for partners to work on their own inspiring campaigns promoting the road to decarbonisation.

The Interreg North-West Europe CleanMobilEnergy project shares the common goal of decarbonisation by accelerating progress towards sustainable mobility in cities and regions. At the moment, electric vehicles are mostly powered by fossil fuel generated electricity; simultaneously, renewable energy is inefficiently utilised as production and demand are not synchronised across the city. For the global shift toward the uptake of EVs to be successful, the problem of inadequate energy storage solutions needs to be addressed. Through CleanMobilEnergy, partners from The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France and the UK have teamed up to integrate various renewable energy sources, storage devices, electric vehicles and optimisation of energy consumption through one unique smart energy management system. The development of this interoperable Energy Management System (iEMS) will ultimately increase the economic value of renewable energy and significantly reduce CO2 emissions.

With countries around the globe now convening for this year’s COP26 - the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties, there is an ever-increasing push to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. CleanMobilEnergy will make it possible for renewable energy sources to be used locally, so electric vehicles can be charged with 100 % renewable energy offered at an optimum price. Join us as we celebrate this year’s World EV Day by promoting a future of increased capacity of EVs in cities across North-West Europe and beyond.
