Within DGE-ROLLOUT, a test site for high-temperature heat pumps (HTHPs) at the Fraunhofer IEG in Bochum, Germany is planned. Heat source for the HTHP is a seasonal high-temperature mine thermal energy storage (HT-MTES) pilot plant which is currently being implemented within the HEATSTORE (Geothermica) project.
The main components of the Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plant were delivered to the Fraunhofer IEG location in Bochum, Germany. The solar thermal collectors, used to heat up the water in the mine galleries during summer operation, are made of an innovative parabolic trough technology. In the final configuration, 12 collectors on 2 rows will be installed at the top of a newly constructed building of the Fraunhofer IEG in Bochum. The technology allows producing water in the temperature range of 100°C to 200°C (depending on the control system strategy and on the solar irradiation) for a total peak capacity of 60 kW. Future power extensions are also possible.
