In the run-up to the climate conference COP26, DGE-ROLLOUT associated member Durham Energy Institute (DEI) and its partners will be highlighting the importance of # decarbonizing heat to meet the carbon reduction goals of the conference. If we are to reduce carbon emissions by 2050 and reach NetZero we need to decarbonize heating and cooling, one of the most difficult areas to decarbonize. In one of the film contributions, we hear from Martin Arndt, from the Geological Survey of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). Martin describes the advantages and the concept of deep geothermal energy as a solution for a CO2-reduced heat and energy transition. Geological Survey of North Rhine-Westphalia is the lead partner in the Interreg North-West Europe project DGE-ROLLOUT (“Roll-out of Deep Geothermal Energy in North-West Europe”), which is introduced in the film with an overview of the project's mission and vision, the work packages, and the project partners.
