Kristian Bär - researcher at TU Darmstadt for the DGE-ROLLOUT project - held an invited presentation at the ‘best practice green district heating virtual conference’ at 28.09.2020 on the deep geothermal potentials of the Upper Rhine Graben. Managing directors of the municipal energy providers of the cities of Heidelberg and Mannheim as well as the mayor of Heidelberg agreed that deep geothermal energy is one of the main future contributors to the energy transition of the Rhein-Neckar-Region. The MVV Energie AG (Municipal energy provider of Mannheim) recently received the claim for deep geothermal energy for the greater Mannheim area and plans to develop 2 or more geothermal power plants in the upcoming years. "We are happy that the rollout of deep geothermal energy in the Upper Rhine Graben is taking up momentum”, says Bär.
