Work on Transnational Map moves on

Even though the pandemic limits opportunities for face-to-face meetings, the cross-border work of geologists in the Interreg project DGE-ROLLOUT continues. The Mapping and Networking team is currently analyzing jointly national data resources and working on the transnational map of the Dinantian geothermal reservoir in Northwest Europe.

The harmonized maps of France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and North Rhine-Westphalia are under preparation by the geologists of BRGM, GSB, TNO, and GD NRW, while the 3D model of the Upper Rhine Graben is being modeled by TU-Da.

The depth and thickness map of the Dinantian reservoir in Northwest Europe will provide the combined knowledge of all involved geological surveys. This enables the users of DGE to locate the position of the reservoir within their target area for geothermal energy production. Furthermore, it helps to estimate the expected temperatures of the reservoir.

At the end of the project, the reservoir model will be published as a free online application, which will provide all the above-mentioned information.
