Irish Housing 4.0 Energy partner, 3 Counties Energy Agency (3CEA), and the Local Authorities (LAs) as Sub Partners are working on the development of the H4.0E pilot units for the social housing market in County Kilkenny, Ireland. The affordable, low carbon pilot homes shall take the following forms:
- Old Fire House, Hight Street Graiguenamanagh, Co Kilkenny;
- Apartment building, 2 floors, 2 units and No 3-4 Inchacarran, Mullinavat, Co.Kilkenny;
- Semidetached Bungalows, 1 floor, 2 units
Going further into detail, Kilkenny County Council (KCC) is working on two timber frame semidetached bungalows and a 2-storey insulated concrete form (ICF) house. The usage of timber frame and ICF construction types will result in reduced embodied CO2 emissions. KCC is covering the same responsibilities as WCC and CCC but the planning and construction process will speed up because it has not the same institutional barriers of building control issues as the schemes are simpler than the WCC project. KCC delivered the updated GA design of the ICF site in Graiguenamanagh and Mullinavat and is working on the tender for construction for both pilots. They hope to go on-site with both pilots in April-May 2021.
