The Irish pilots in the counties of Carlow and Kilkenny incorporate various state-of-the-art technologies to reduce embodied carbon and feature low carbon concrete and timber frame constructions to test further low carbon housing solutions.
Each pilot uses Passive House-standard features and measures to allow for optimised energy usage in addition to the tenants’ comfort. All pilots use optimised technology (e.g., Heat Pump/Ventilation/Hot Water Combination System) for supplying heat and hot water, and the Carlow pilot incorporates underfloor heating to keep the homes warm at a low cost.
All pilot homes have their power partly supplied by solar panels installed on their roofs.
