First Energiesprong refurbishment of a large housing group

In July 2022, Vonovia completed the first Energiesprong renovation on Katharinastraße in Bochum. The project is intended to give a boost to sustainability for the entire portfolio.

With 556,000 apartments, Vonovia is the largest housing group in Germany. In order to lead its portfolio to CO2 neutrality by 2045, the company has defined climate paths that are underpinned with measures, investments and priorities.

The pressure to refurbish post-war buildings is particularly high. Since these buildings make up a large part of the portfolio, Vonovia is looking for solutions that accelerate energy modernization.

In Bochum's Katharinastraße, the group implemented a series of renovations based on the Energiesprong principle for the first time. The project partner of the pilot project, which started at the end of 2021, was the Fischbach Group. Three apartment buildings from the 1950s with 24 apartments and a total living space of 1,164 m2 were energetically modernized.

Working with prefabricated modules reduced the effort on the construction site, which reduced the burden on the tenants to a minimum.
