It’s a wrap! MEA at OEEC 2021

Looking back to a successful and buzzing event, Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference (OEEC) welcomed over 350 exhibitors and 5.000 visitors at the Home of Energy Transition at RAI Amsterdam. Moreover, it was great to see so many small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) at the Marine Energy Pavilion at OEEC 2021 in person and online.

The potential of marine energy was highlighted in various forms: by the presence of numerous technologies present on the exhibition floor, during the interviews, pitches, as well as in content programme sessions.

In the packed Marine Energy session, the panellists stressed the importance of working together in achieving the European targets for offshore energy in time. The session featured four topics, each equally important for the successful commercialization and scale-up of marine energy technologies, that were hosted by Britta Schaffmeister, the CEO of Dutch Marine Energy Centre (DMEC), which organised the session. Backing up the topics, big names from the industry were present as speakers, including Xavier Guillou from DG Mare, Benjamin Lehner from DMEC, and contributors who joined online: Rebecca Pike from RWE Renewables UK, Michael Baumann from SFK Group, Gavin McPherson from Nova Innovation, and Alexandre Chavarot from the Coalition of Climate Resilient Investment.

Several SMEs were proud to discuss their innovations and share their story in a series of interviews hosted by Eva Brower. For instance, Farwing Energy and Development v. Kim Nielsen shed more light on their offshore wind and wave energy-powered innovations respectively. Pioneers in offshore floating solar developments and innovative storage solutions were presented by Solar Duck and Ocean Grazer respectively. Floating solar developer, HelioRec and wave energy company, Novige introduced the audience to their innovative clean energy solutions that are set to be an important contributor to the future energy mix. These interviews are available On Demand on offshore-energy.biz.

Marine Energy events continued. Technology developers and supply chain companies from marine energy sector joined discussion tables on investment readiness by Andrew Smith from Deja Blue Consulting & Greenbackers Investment Capital, accompanied by supply chain and marine energy sector collaboration by Tjerk Suurenbroek from IRO - The Association of Dutch Suppliers in the Offshore Energy Industry and Benjamin Lehner from DMEC (Dutch Marine Energy Centre). The session was supported by ENCORE: Energizing Coastal Regions with Offshore Renewable Energy.

“Forces were joined” during a delicious combination between cheese and seaweed at the Marine Energy Pavilion, together with IRO, Netherlands Wind Energy Association, wind & water works, Marine Energy Alliance and North Sea Energy Gateway.
