In this article (in Dutch) our OVAM partners indicate the connection between landfills and natural capital. The traditional exploitation of landfills mainly had negative effects on natural capital. Qualitative soils were damaged and biodiversity declined. However, healthy soils are essential for the challenges we face, such as climate change, healthy food production and high quality drinking water. The authors set the focus on sustainable management of former landfills, whereby content and context are analysed and addressed (Dynamic Landfill Management). Interreg projects such as Regeneratis offer solutions for this approach. In addition to material recycling, eco-catalyst contribute to eco-friendly solutions at landfill sites.
