Get your belongings repaired

Saturday, October 15 is International Repair Day. In Leuven, a real Repair Marathon will take place that day in the Botanical Garden. Stop by with your broken mixer, coffee maker or piece of clothing and get to work with a volunteer repairman.

No time on Saturday? You can also bring your small household appliances and clothing to the Botanical Garden on Wednesday, Oct. 12 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. During the Repair Marathon, volunteer repairers try to give as many items as possible a second life.

In the run-up to the International Repair Day, Maakbaar Leuven and MAAKbar are organizing all sorts of things around the theme of repairing. For example, you can learn to weld or have broken appliances fixed at Maakleerplek. Want to discover the contrast between how we make coffee today, and what objects we used for this in the past? Spot the modern coffee machine that has infiltrated the permanent exhibition 'Alles voor de vorm' in M Leuven. Do you want to repair clothing? In TextielLab you learn embroidery, and in library Tweebronnen you discover 'Visible Mending': repairing holes in a cool, visible way. You'll learn the basics of electricity at the Student Repair Hub, and for the tricks of the bicycle repair trade, visit Fietspunt Velo.
