Port of Liège wins Mobility week award

The Autonomous Port of Liège wins one of the Wallonia region's Mobility Week awards and is the first winner of the Best Action for Sustainable Freight Transport – Heavy Lift Category.

Amongst the 190 candidates (including business, schools and institutions) the jury particularly appreciated the demonstration of the barge Zulu and the container FlexiMalle organized by the Autonomous Port of Liège in close collaboration with Smart Track for Waterway on 16 September.

This demonstration at Euroports Inland Terminals highlighted innovative solutions contributing to the transition to more efficient and environmentally friendly urban logistics.

The Zulu, designed by Blue Line Logistics, is a small barge (50m x 6.6m) equipped with an onboard crane that can load and unload up to 300 tons of goods, making its use particularly suitable for transporting goods to cities.

The demonstration made it possible to highlight the ease of unloading pallets and their loading at the dock by Rayon9, a Liège-based company specialized in the transport of goods and parces by cargo-bike.

The participants were also able to observe the handling of the FlexiMalle, developed by Sogestran, which is a new light, foldable and standardized container (20 or 40 feet) meeting the needs of massification of freight flows and reduction of transhipment costs.

Thanks to this action, the Autonomous Port of Liège also intends to include river transport as an alternative mode of freight transport, in a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach.

Congratulations to all the teams involved in putting this event together, well done!
