Record year for freight traffic in the port of Brussels

2021 has been the best year for the port of Brussels since the creation of the regional company of the port of Brussels in 1993.

With nearly 5.5 million tonnes, the port's activity has never been so prosperous in almost thirty years and shows a 10% increase compared to the previous year. Global traffic in turn increased by 7% to reach 7.1 million tonnes.

Waterway transport plays a major role in the climate objectives of the Brussels Region, saving 664,000 trucks in and around Brussels, 103,000 tonnes less CO2 in the atmosphere and 26 million euros of external costs by 2021.
