The idea for a VR-supported self-management intervention for long Covid was sparked during the pandemic when many individuals experienced persisting symptoms after recovering from the acute illness. Patient advocacy groups like Long Covid Physio and Long Covid SOS shed light on the ongoing struggles of patients and the lack of proper treatment. The Xhalers research group collaborated with Long Covid SOS representatives and ultimately decided to focus on developing a game that supports pacing for long Covid. The Xhalers team, which includes experts in rehabilitation, medical specialists, computer science and software developers, business innovation, and patient advocacy, had sufficient resources to pursue this project.
