AFLOWT publishes a Floating Offshore Wind Development Plan

Part of the AFLOWT project was the work package “Long Term”. The main objective of this work package was to assist in addressing the current market failings that are apparent in the wide scale market uptake of floating offshore wind, notably:

• education of project developers and investors on floating offshore wind technology maturity and investability,
• stimulation of a favourable policy environment, and
• development of an active supply chain.

These topics were investigated in detail in three working groups with the support of an advisory board. The overall work package was led by the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES as many of the project developers, investors, and supply chain are based in Germany, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. So having this activity led by a German partner, it was expected that the impact to these areas will be strengthened. Three further AFLOWT project partners took the lead of the three working groups. Together with associate partners from the North-West European region, the above mentioned three core topics were elaborated on.

The results of these three working groups were collated in a Floating Offshore Wind Development Plan (FOWDP), which we are now happy to publish and disseminate. You can find a leaflet with brief information on the FOWDP above. For the full FOWDP report, please visit the project outcomes page;

As seen below, partners were delighted to launch the FOWDP at the Floating Offshore Wind 2023 Conference & Exhibition (https://events.renewableuk.com/fow23) in Aberdeen last week.

Thanks to all that have contributed to this FOWDP. These are mainly the project partners as well as associate partners, but also many further contacts that have contributed through surveys and provided information.
