Four speakers from the first generation of cycle highways (Signe Helledi from the Supercykelstier in Greater Copenhagen, Carlton Reid from the Cycle Superhighways in London, Ulrich Malburg from the Radschnellweg Ruhr network and Frederik Pousset from the Flemish fietssnelwegen) will present their ambitions and illustrate the CHIPS Assessment Tool with stories from their regional cycle highways. CHIPS Partner Provincie Vlaams-Brabant launches bike to work campaign for employers

‘In order to tackle the traffic problem, especially the traffic jams, in our region, we want to see more people cycling’, says Tom Dehaene, Mobility representative for the Province of Flemish Brabant. ‘With this new project we want to convince employees to leave their car in the garage at home and cycle to work. Therefore we will launch a cycling campaign with businesses this summer. We will rent these business electric bicycles who can provide them to their employees for a trial period of three weeks. In this way, employees can experience what it’s like for them to cycle to work. Hopefully, they have an enjoyable experience and will be convinced to use their bicycles more for commuting to work.’ Read More

CHIPS survey exploring the barriers preventing people commuting by bike

To enable more people to cycle to work, is one of the objectives of the European CHIPS – Cycle Highway Innovation project. The first step of the project involved a survey of workplaces located near the cycle highways in Northern Ireland (Comber Greenway), Province of Gelderland (Rijnwaalpad), Tilburg (Hart van Brabant), Province of Flemish Brabant and Frankurt to identify the barriers preventing people commuting by bike. Our CHIPS partner Sustrans took the lead in this activity and recently published a report with the results of the surveys in all partner regions. Read More

CHIPS’ Love is in the air campaign thanks cycling commuters on Valentine's Day in Belfast

CHIPS Partners Sustrans and Translink (Northern Ireland's integrated bus and rail public transport company) have partnered on Valentine’s Day to say ‘thank you’ to bus and cycling commuters for not polluting our air. The ‘Love Is in the Air’ campaign in Belfast aimed to raise awareness of the high levels of air pollution caused mainly by car traffic. Read More
