Over 80 companies from around Ireland attended the High-Performance Hard Metal Machining Workshop on the 15th and 16th September, areas such as precision engineering, aerospace and medical were topics focused on.
This workshop was an excellent opportunity for SME’s around Ireland to come together and get first-hand demonstrations and experience and learn from world-renowned leaders in the machining industry. Machining Partners Zhaw and Swiss Mechatronics hosted a workshop in Neuhausen to promote the Machining 4.0 project and vouchers available to SMEs. The Laboratory in Neuhausen demonstrated the "Fieldlab SmartPro 4.0", which was developed by the ZHAW - Institute of Mechatronic Systems, An impressive assembly facility, developed as part of the Interreg project "Machining 4.0", highlighted various aspects of Industry 4.0 in operation. Its goals and priorities were explained by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans Wernher van de Venn in his presentation. The Machining 4.0 project launch took place during the National Manufacturing and Supply Chain Conference and Exhibition in the Citywest Exhibition Centre in Dublin on 17 January 2019. The event represented the largest annual one day gathering of key decision-makers for the food, pharmaceutical, medical, life sciences, engineering, electronics and supply chain sector. Over 3,000 delegates attended to hear from leading experts on topics including Brexit, Smart Factory, Lean, Skills & Training, Procurement, Health & Safety and Clean Room.
Machining 4.0 had an exhibition stand at the displaying information about the projects. Machining4.0 partners AFRC hosts Scotland’s first machining conference in over three decades took place at University of Strathclyde’s Advanced Forming Research Centre this month, marking the largest ever event hosted by the Inchinnan based research centre. Designed to revitalise the country’s engineering community, re-shore work and promote developments across the machining sector, the event was attended by over 300 delegates from firms large and small across Scotland and the world. A collaboration between the AFRC and ten of its industrial members and partners, Machining Scotland featured innovative technology, software and cutting tools, it also showcased the AFRC’s Hybrid platform, which combines machining and additive on a retrofitted CNC machine.
