Gemeente Enschede
The municipality of Enschede is a public organization. It is our task to work towards a sustainable society. Within the municipality, a lot of work is done with raw materials. They are released during our work, and we purchase a lot of raw materials and feedstock. The municipality of Enschede has a leading role in the Twente region when it comes to sustainable initiatives. We see it as an important principle that a sustainable society will also provide additional jobs and provide the necessary citizenship awareness. This requires the development of new business models and smart communication methods. We must show our residents and businesses that a sustainable society is possible. It must become more than just a paper reality. We must learn by doing. Local connections/networks • Attero, waste management, “making new business models form biomass”: www.attero.nl Attero processes around 3.5 million tons of waste each year, of which about 1.8 million tons of residual waste. We recover plastic, metal and beverage cartons from this through post-separation. In our energy from waste plants (AEC) we produce green gas, renewable electricity, and sustainable heat from residual waste. This energy and the recovered raw materials replace fossil fuels and primary raw materials, which is beneficial for our environment. • Pioneering, the platform for innovators in the built environment. By connecting the business community, housing associations, governments, and educational and knowledge institutions, we drive initiatives that contribute to an innovative and future-proof Eastern Netherlands. www.pioneering.nl • Region Twente: Region Twente is the partnership of the fourteen municipalities of Twente with a catchment area of more than 631,300 inhabitants. www.regiotwente.nl

CDEC
CDEC was established by the Association of Entrepreneurs and the Federation of construction companies. It aims to drive an integrated sector strategy to bring all actors (public & private project managers, entrepreneurs, industry operators) towards sustainable competitiveness. CDEC is involved in several national working groups on energy efficiency and has based its strategy on 5 pillars: Finance, Training, Engineering, Innovation, Promotion. Most of these activities occur within a PPP framework. CDEC will use its strong network in Luxembourg and the Great-Region to promote the circular economy concept to the cities, particularly with Bettembourg and Dudelange. As Interreg NWE GROOF lead partner and main stakeholder in the development of the national strategy for urban farming, CDEC will also promote the concept to the urban farming sector and investigate the opportunities of using the activated coal as substrate in urban farms and air filter in buildings.
