VITO is a leading European independent research and technology organisation in the areas of cleantech and sustainable development. One of the research domains of VITO focuses on providing technologies and policy support in the field of sustainable materials management. The core objective is to assist governments and industry in the transition to a circular economy. Important in this is to understand the dynamics of complete systems in this transition, with regard to multiple trade-offs between for example economic efficiency, environmental impacts and resource conservation.
