STW was formed in 1974 as a regional, state-owned water authority in the UK and privatised in 1989. It is one of the largest regulated water and sewerage companies in England and Wales, supplying water to +/- 8 million people and treating wastewater from 9 million people in the East and West Midlands and the mid-Wales regions of the UK.
