On April 22nd, ST4W attended the final conference of the Interreg North Sea Region project IWTS2.0 where speakers have presented how the electric barge GreenWave can ensure accessibility of IWT to the city of Ghent and improve the quality of life. The results of the project include also training courses for young professionals and students to teach efficient and safe navigation on small waterways, using both theory and practice on a simulator. On April 16th, 2021, the “Rhine-Alpine Talks” #8 took place online and addressed strategies, agendas and projects on smart and green inland waterway transport and gathered speakers and panelists from European and regional institutions and interest groups. Further digitalisation and RIS have been pinpointed has key to foster a better integration of IWT in the supply chain with other transport modes, to make the IWT more competitive and safer and to help achieving more CO2 reduction. The tool developed and tested in ST4W for better collaboration and real-time multimodal visibility is therefore highly relevant to all stakeholders. Read More
We followed this webinar, which was about the digitalization of the construction sector. In the Seine River valley, the French ST4W pilot aims at a better connection between inland waterway transport and multimodal logistics solution to deliver wooden construction elements in the Paris area construction sites. ST4W will make it easier by providing digital tools and an innovative container for inland waterway transport: FlexiMalle concept designed by Sogestran. FlexiMalle is tracked step by step, from end to end in the multimodal waterborne transport thanks to the ST4W tracking system. Read More
Modern business needs are making details related to "who" and "where" more critical than ever. Over the last year, GS1 has taken a holistic approach to address the industry’s needs in terms of identification of party and location throughout the world. A webinar took place on 14 April 2021 to provide an overview of current activities and what will happen in the future in terms of industry needs, standards, and Global Location Number (GLN) registries. Members of ST4W team participated to this event, with great interest. Read More
Blockchain has been a very important developing technology supporting logistics digitalization and the creation of digital and data sharing ecosystems. Using blockchain technologies allows data exchanges based on immutable, unforgeable record of all of the transactions across the network, in order to build exchanges based on trust between stakeholders. Members of ST4W team participated in the "Blockchain applications for logistics webinar", organized by ALICE platform, with great interest. Read More

Inland waterway transport is an excellent way to bring goods into dense urban areas with minimal environmental impact and nuisance. However, this multimodal transport requires efficient logistics to organize all the operations for the timely delivery of goods. The French ST4W pilot aims at better connecting inland waterway transport with multimodal city logistics; firstly, digitally, thanks to ST4W tools, and, secondly, physically, thanks to an innovative FlexiMalle concept designed by SOGESTRAN. Fleximalle is a light and hard-wearing multimodal container complying with handling industry standards. Fleximalle is tracked from end to end along the multimodal journey thanks to the ST4W hierarchical tracking system. In the end of February 2021, Fleximalle’s inaugural journey delivered wooden construction elements from the Cuiller manufacturer's factory in Petit-Couronne near Rouen to the destination site at Noisy-le-Grand (east of Paris region). The highlight of this multimodal journey was the transshipment operation at Paris Terminal; from the Bosphore (container liner) to the Zulu (small barge dedicated to urban transport). Photographs are better than a long speech to show the efficient sequence of these operations. Read More
